In a hotel room in late 2007 a conversation was hatched between friends. A conversation that led to the same topic as many other conversations: food and beer. But this conversation was different. This wasn't a conversation of where to get the best food or what place had the best beer or how hard it was to get to that one place that seemed to have both. This was a conversation that was had in the past, and that would inevitably been had again - why isn't there a place for us to go with great food and even better beer?
It was during that initial conversation that the seed was planted and a plan began to form - the genesis of the idea that is now The Back Abbey. The conversation that sparked the idea was not anymore special than many conversations that came before - but rather it was that it wasn't special that set it apart.
The Back Abbey founder, John Solana (a practicing chimney sweep for the past eighteen years) has always had a passion for fine food and drink and decided in that moment to share that passion with others. After returning home from the trip, John set in motion the development of an idea for a place that would allow him and his friends to come together and have that experience.
The next six months marked a whirlwind of activity, planning, finding, and executing that culminated with the opening of The Back Abbey on June 10, 2008. With the support of family and friends and a deep desire to share his passion, John Solana has built a successful and thriving establishment.
We invite you to come by, enjoy and discover our carefully selected selections. Bring your friends and create your own conversation in a place that is an ongoing conversation - about fine food and drink and the right place to experience both.
